Watching
When I first heard the role that Patrick Dempsey was playing in this I thought ‘hmmm‘, thinking of his romcoms and such, but am very surprised he is perfect for it. He plays a hitman who is supposedly only killing bad people, living a double life with a secret family. He’s diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and the symptoms of that endanger the wall between his two lives and his future as a hitman - which some people won’t allow him to quit.
You’ve probably heard about this and how good it is so my opinion adds nothing, but if you haven’t you’re welcome. The genre for this seems to vary based upon who you ask but I’m going with thriller comedy horror - mild on horror. I don’t do horror, although you might argue The X-Files and Supernatural are mild horror and I’ve watched those. But I think if you’re turned away by the word you’ll likely find it mild in this show and thus watchable.
This show is engrossing. I’m not sure what makes it that way but it might be Matthew Rhys, whose character captures your attention and keeps it. The humor is very much mine and so I found it laugh out loud funny, made even funnier by it being interspersed amongst the shit hitting the fan.
NEWS:
Hulu is adapting Scott Turow’s novel Suspect into a series. It centers on Pinky, a private investigator who searches for evidence to exonerate a female police chief accused of extorting sex from male officers in exchange for job promotions. Pinky is described as an “oddball private investigator”. Hulu is also doing a series adaptation of the movie The Kid Detective, which starred Adam Brody. Both of these had me at PI. Deadline article.
Only Murder In The Building’s season 6 is taking place in London and it it is the season I hadn’t even realized I should wish for. British guest stars out the ying-yang including David Tennant, who *fingers-crossed* is playing a quirky character, he’s talented and all that at the grim drama but his gift is a quirky character and if he’s not quirky I’m going to be bummed. Their last season had Zach Galifianakis and he played a borderline depressed man with a very straight man comedy delivery - I loved him in it nonetheless but it does not bode well for Mr. Tennant if they can ‘waste’ Mr. Galifianakis like that. Deadline article.
Writerly
This is in Writerly becuz it will appeal a lot more to writers - but readers will enjoy it too. It’s not word for word, she condenses the story, but it’s all the parts you need to know and you feel like a kid being read to at bedtime. She intersperses it with the ‘making of’, the behind the scenes, her favorite parts and why she loves them. Her enthusiasm and delight about her own work will (hopefully 😄) remind you of yours. For readers, it’s a story being told as it was meant to be by the author of. Also, cameos from her cats. After you’ve watched these watch her previous readalong for her Shades of Magic series.
Substack
Two new arrivals to Substackia worth subbing to already. Michelle at Fancy Little Corner writes about books and their fashion and is worth visiting just for her insane aesthetics. The Curated Coven is about skincare, makeup, and fashion. Julia’s post topics are what made me sub, such as a list of the ugliest shoes she’s ever seen.
And these cutie pies are not new but were recently re-stacked to garner more of the attention they deserve.
